LBCE MScottHey everyone! CON SEASON BEGINS!

This weekend I’ll be attending Long Beach Comic Expo on Saturday and Sunday. Below is my schedule of signings and panels!

Saturday February 28th, 2pm – 3pm Signing at the IDW Booth #604

Sunday March 1st, 10:30 to 12pm, Room S5, #MakeComics: PREVIEWS & the Direct Market panel. I’ll be discussing the importance of pre-ordering comics and how it affects comics sales with the hosts of Fanboy Comics’ Previews Party Podcast.

Sunday March 1st, 1pm – 2pm Signing at Livio Ramondelli’s table #C6

Since I don’t have a table if you see me on the show floor and want to say hi or get a book signed, I’ll be happy to stop and talk. See ya there!

SoS-Chaos-Cov-A-Chin-60ce5So do you ever have that dream where one of your professional heroes emails you and asks you to write a book for them? Well, a few months ago that dream came true for me when Gail Simone asked me to write the Chaos special for her upcoming Swords of Sorrow series. Of course, my head exploded, but once I gathered all the pieces I wrote a really cool and nonchalant response email as I secretly said “Yes, Yes, YES!!!”

Swords of Sorrow is a 6-issue event where Gail brings together the coolest heroes of the Dynamite Universe. There will also be special tie-in issues by awesome ladies like Marguerite Bennett, G.Willow Wilson, Erica Schultz, Leah Moore, Emma Beeby, Mikki Kendall, and Nancy A. Collins. I get to write the Chaos special with art by Mirka Andolfo which introduces the antagonists of Gail’s series, Chastity, Purgatori, Mistress Hel, and Bad Kitty. These ladies are deadly and totally out of f*cks to give. They will rip your heart out and smile as they show it you.

Check out the awesome cover by Joyce Chin to the right and check out the full Swords of Sorrow announcement here.

So excited!

So, it’s 2015, the time of resolutions, and I’ve been getting a lot of questions from pushy fans about being more inclusive in my work.

I like pushy fans. I LOVE pushy fans and I’ve been trying to think of a way to let you know that I hear you and also to push myself to be more diverse in what I do.

Not every brand can be every thing. It’s difficult to talk about race among robots. Historical novels should probably not make JFK a woman. A pre-school show might have trouble explaining class-based disparity in our society. We may also fall short or mess up for other reasons (technical, timing, lack of power ourselves, etc).

But the important thing is that in 2015 we as writers, artists and creators need to be challenging ourselves to do better. Inclusion needs to be at the forefront of our minds. We need to be looking at what we make and asking not “Should I be diverse?” but “Why would I not be diverse?” Because while you may need to keep the preexisting character white/male/whatever for your next liscenced story, does the beat cop he speaks to need to be white? Does every woman in the coffee shop need to be size 0? Do aliens on another world need to be heterosexual? Why?

I put up this sign in my office to remind myself that the answer is usually NO, they don’t. The world is a huge and complex place and my writing needs to do everything it can to express that.

I challenge any other creator who reads this to do something similar. Give yourself a daily reminder to do better, with every story, with every scene. Tell your fans and your friends about it. We may fall short; we likely will fall short, but if we’re going to make resolutions every year this seems a much better one than weight loss. Resolve to be diverse in your work, because the world is already diverse…we just aren’t good at writing it yet.

Be Well,
Mairghread Scott

Hey everyone!tf 39

It’s Pre-order time. Combiner Wars starts in March and includes the return of Windblade! Stores are now accepting pre-orders for Transformers #39: Combiner Wars Opening Salvo and Windblade #1 which is also Combiner Wars part 1.

To pre-order at your local comic store you just have to go in and ask them to reserve you a copy, if they need the order codes I have listed them below:

Transformers #39: Combiner Wars Opening Salvo –  JAN150434
Windblade #1: Combiner Wars Part 1 – JAN150438

windblade 1Stores have to place their initial orders by January 18th so if you want to ensure you get a copy, pre-order by that date.

If you run into any problems or have any questions about pre-ordering comics, feel free to contact me via the contact button above or on my various social media.

Hi Everyone!

So my plan was to start updating this space regularly but duty called and alas there is no rest for the wicked!DIG029227_1

What is keeping me busy right now? Well, this month I am writing and acting as a story consultant in animated television. Pretty cool huh? I’ll let you know more when I can.

John Barber, Sarah Stone, Livio Ramondelli and I are also hard at work on IDW’s Transformers Combiner Wars series which is coming out in 2015. Expect lots of massive robotic action. The best part of working on this series is figuring out the fight scenes using our action figures. At least that is my husband’s favorite part.

I am also about to start scripting my first original graphic novel story that the amazing Sarah Stone will be illustrating. I will be talking about this project a lot in 2015.

If any of you are going to Comikaze in Los Angeles, I’ll be there on Sunday where I’ll be appearing on a Lion Forge panel at Noon in room 308AB. I’ll be discussing my new Saber Rider digital comic series that should be launching soon on Amazon.

So that is what I am working on but there are also some cool new releases you can get your hands on.

Transformers Windblade Volume 1 is now available in a single collected edition. You can buy it in a physical trade paperback at your local comic shop or on Amazon.com. You can also buy it digitally here and read it on your computer, iPad or other device.

I also did a story with Meredith McClaren for Boom Studio’s Bravest Warriors: Paralyzed Horse Giant special. This was a very fun project and Meredith is an artist I’ve always wanted to work with; her art is amazing. Also Tessa Stone did the cover (pictured left) so now I have worked with both incredibly talented Stone sisters!

That is my crazy month, is anyone else really excited for the holidays so you can to take a little break and relax? Maybe a spa day? I know I am.

Until next time, be well,

Mairghread
